Research Interests:

My research aims to understand the therapeutic mechanisms of deep brain stimulation and to develop an optogenetics-based brain stimulation paradigm for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.  In my research, I use novel optoelectronic devices we developed in Nurmikko Lab to monitor and optogenetically perturb the activity of neuronal populations in cortico-basal ganglia system of the hemiparkinsonian rats during trained motor tasks.
